Loreto - La Paz Voyage 2022

In late 2021, we paddled for a fourth time, 150 nautical miles in the Sea of Cortez. We sea kayaked in a Seaward Passat G3 from Loreto to La Paz in Baja California Sur via the Isla San Francisco, Isla Partida, and Isla Espiritu Santo.

We explored the amazing coastline and got challenged with the El Torito squalls, challenging crossings, and sea conditions. In fact, the fourth day we got hit by 60mph winds, two miles offshore of Puerto Gato. The local fishermen call the violent squall as "El Torito." The fog, the squall, and the williwaws were a force to be reckoned with. We found temporary shelter at a small islet, named Roca Negra across Timbabiche and waited for the winds to abate.

The crossing from Isla San Francisco to Isla Espiritu Santo was equally a challenge in wind and sea state force 5-6 in the Beaufort scale. We managed to cross the 28 nautical miles in just 8 hours.
